Junior School

Life at the Junior School

The Junior School at Waverley College is a vibrant community where boys in Years 5 and 6 come to learn, grow, and thrive. Our day-to-day life is structured to ensure a balance of academic rigor, creativity, and fun, fostering genuine friendships and a sense of belonging and connection.

Our curriculum encompasses core subjects like Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Humanities, and Science, complemented by specialist subjects in areas such as PDHPE, Music, Visual Arts, and STEM. Our teachers seamlessly integrate technology and innovative teaching practices to engage boys in meaningful learning experiences.

Holistic education

From their first year in the Junior School, our students are supported by a dedicated team of teachers, support staff, and Year 10 Big Brothers who provide mentorship and guidance. This buddy system fosters strong relationships between our Junior School students and their Senior role models, promoting a sense of connection and community.

As our students progress through the Junior School, they participate in a nurturing transition program that prepares them for a seamless move to the Senior School. This program includes visits to the Senior School, meetings with teachers and mentors, and engaging activities that help students become familiar with the new environment, ensuring a confident and successful transition.

I’ve had the best time at Waverley Junior School. The teachers are really nice and they help you with anything you need. I’ve made heaps of friends and we always have fun together, whether we’re playing sport, doing classwork or just hanging out at recess. I love going to the Learning Hub at lunch time because I get to do lots of creative things like drawing, 3D printing, and Lego Club. I love the opportunities we get to try, like hip hop, singing in the choir, and doing cool science experiments. The classrooms are really cool too, with lots of technology and resources to help us learn. But what I think I love the most is the sense of community. Everyone looks out for each other and the teachers really care about us. I feel really lucky to be a part of Waverley Junior School and I’m excited to move into the Senior school next year with all my friends.
